Peter Todd - Electronic Artist

I'm currently in the Integrated Media program of the Ontario College of Art and Design in the 3rd year of my degree. As an artist I think what I create is primarily systems, self-contained works with behaviors and responses. My art is rarely static, nearly everything I make is processing information in some way, or is constantly evolving itself. This approach has been made possible through my technical skills and study of the fields of electronics, mechanics and computer science. My process continually moves between design and implementation; I make such extensive notes, drawings, schematics and code for my artworks that the artwork is almost the data on my computer describing it. Yet at the same time I'm continually working with the very real world of electronics and machine tools, constantly integrating theoretical schematics into actual realizations.

As well as my artistic practice I still do strictly technical work, such as computer programming and system administration. I'm a long-time user of open source software and have been using Linux exclusively for years now. A more recent interest has been embedded systems, with PIC microprocessors and electronics. I studied this field to create my art, but have also done some contract work creating electronic devices for various people. I've also developed an interest in machining and have a Sherline lathe and mill, the latter I've converted to CNC operation with the open-source EMC software.

I am available to do consulting work. I'm more busy from September to April, my school year, but otherwise I'm fully available. My biggest strength is that I have a lot of experience in a wide variety of fields. You can take a look at my resume; also take a look at the art and technical projects I've done.
